System OperatorA Civil Service examination will be held for the position of System Operator in the Commons Area at Apollo High School, 2280 Tamarack Road, on November 17, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. System Operator responsibilities are to monitor and control the electrical transmission and distribution system equipment through operation and observation of the SCADA system. The position also ensures the efficient and continual operation of all electrical transmission and distribution equipment, complying with all procedures, standards and regulations relating to the work instruction program and system energy supply. Duties require continuous compliance with NERC Standards and procedures applicable to Bulk Electric System operation. The System Operator requires substantial judgment and analytic ability as in organizing information and multiple personnel schedules and organizational demands. This position is subject to 24-hour call and rotating shift. This position requires up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level in electrical technology. An A.S. or B.S. of Science degree in an Electrical Technical field is preferred. The ability to become NERC Transmission Operator certified is required within the first 12 months of employment. The position also requires the ability to diplomatically handle a variety of customer relation issues such as billing discrepancies and service initiation or termination.
