OMU celebrates Arbor Day with tree planting Monday, April 19, 2010In celebration of Arbor Day and in cooperation with a local elementary school, OMU will continue its tradition of planting a tree.
This year, OMU will join forces with Tamarack Elementary School to expand their outdoor classroom and backyard area by planting a shade tree on April 23, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.
The tree, which will be located in the center of the walking track area, will provide not only shade, but will also serve as a gathering place for students and faculty.
“We hope that this tree becomes that traditional meeting spot at the school much like the ones we remember,” explained System Clearance Coordinator Mark Miller. “This tree planting is will be a perfect fit for the plans already underway for the school’s outdoor area.”
Owensboro Municipal Utilities has long been proud of its Tree Line USA Utility designation, being the first in the state of Kentucky to earn the designation. The honor is bestowed on utilities which use appropriate tree trimming practices and continue to grow their own urban forests by planting and replacing trees regularly.
